Sod, otherwise known as turf is the grass and the part of soil directly beneath the grass held together by the roots. Sod is commonly used to create beautiful lawns and golf courses, but has many uses. Sod is helpful to quickly establish a lawn and prevent soil erosion. Sod can be used to repair a small portion of lawn that has died or can be applied to the entire acreage.

Sod is a quicker version of creating a lawn and prevents problems that seeding a lawn might encounter, such as being eaten by birds, wind disposal or drought failure. Newly laid sod is usually completely functional within 30 days of installation resulting in nearly instant gratification. Sod root systems can be compared to a 2 or 3 year old seeded lawn.
